this would work, if the ice machine you're producing your ice with sits in another room of your house. But this room then will then be heated more. Thermodynamically THIS "machine" works, but when you look at the whole process of getting cold air this is nonsense. When used in one room, you would first heat the air for getting a liquid cooled which then is used to cool the air again. And because cooling units never are 100% efficient and your work is far away form efficient this not work.?

But in situations such as what England has? right now it will be waste of money to buy an air con unit since it's only hot for like 2 weeks a year so this is very useful

air conditioner would be cheaper to use then to? waste ice, time and energy in doing such things.

Buy ice from? the shop rather than freezing water in your freezer. Problem solved.

@lemonrind- everyone read your comment and agrees. Repeating it over and over makes people less likely to give a shit about your point. So just to be clear, your point is this(One more goddamn time) the? freezer is releasing more heat producing the ice than you are able to absorb with the coil.

Will is not enough when you're trying to solve technical problems. Understanding how things works is really important. In this case, when you freeze your ice packs in? the freezer, the freezer generates a lot of waste heat. According to the laws of thermodynamics, the waste heat will always be more than the cooling effect you get from the ice packs. There is a lot we know about heating and cooling. But no one seems interested in learning what we already know.
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 09:10:54
Sorry, but when someone posts a video of something that can't possibly work according to? fundamental laws of physics, and tries to teach their mistake to others, I have to speak up. This system cannot work.
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 09:07:38
Yes, salt melts ice, but not by heating it up. Salt lowers the freezing point of water. Since ice water had a temperature that is exactly the freezing point, salty ice water is much colder than regular ice water. This is how old-fashioned? ice cream is made. You add lots of ice and salt to the outer chamber, which freezes the cream and sugar in the inner chamber.
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 09:03:16
Correct! But what you missed is that there is little difference between opening? the freezer door to cool your room, and making ice in the freezer and using that to cool the room. They both make the freezer exhaust more heat than you can cool, and both methods will warm up your house!
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 08:59:18
Liquid cooled PCs do only achieve ambient room temperature (unless they also have other tricks like an A/C compressor or liquid nitrogen). From a high-end processor's point of view, room temperature is absolutely freezing. And because the processor is so tiny compared to the room, it will never heat up the room enough for the temperatures? to equalize.
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 08:52:58
The radiator in a car works because the outside air temperature is always MUCH lower than the super hot engine temperature. The same is true with computer processors. In this case though, once the ice melts and the water is raised to the temperature of the room, the system won't work anymore. Likewise, if the air outside your car was the same as? the hot engine, there would be no point in having a radiator. This setup also doesn't make sense thermodynamically for a host of other reasons.
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 08:44:59
Not? only will freezing your own ice do zero good, it will do LESS than zero good. No freezer is 100% efficient, so there is actually extra waste heat being generated beyond what can be cooled by the ice. So if you thermally insulated a room with this setup, it would just get hotter and hotter and hotter!
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 08:42:25
And where did you get all of that ice? If? you got the ice from your indoor freezer, congratulations: you just increased the amount of heat in your home.
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 08:40:30
Yes, it's inventive, but it doesn't solve the problem. When you make ice, your freezer exhausts the excess heat into the room. So you're heating the room, and then cooling it. Due to the laws of thermodynamics,? you will always produce more heat than you can cool using this method.
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 08:38:53
Yes, so just use the fan and forget about all of? this other stuff that doesn't take into account the laws of thermodynamics.
By: lemonrind. on 14 May 12, 08:37:56
Yes, and while you're freezing all of these giant blocks of ice, your freezer is dumping that heat into your house. And because of the laws of thermodynamics, the freezer will ALWAYS produce more? heat than you can cool with the ice. The only way for this to work is to either buy ice, or keep your freezer outside.
