The pump does not need to be the 100 watt version. There are lower wattage pumps on the market. A good DC pump would work too. This is 50 gallons. Pondmaster Magnetic Drive Water Pump.

I think you should use dryer water. Dryer water has less tendancy to lose heat to the atmosphere, and is much less wet in the event of a leak. So dry your water about 20%? and see how it works out.

As an RV'er I can tell you that you don't want to use colored water hose? to connect to water you use to drink or cook. It picks up taste and who knows what else from the chemicals used to dye or color it. The black hard hose in your other video is specifically designed for plumbing without bleeding chemicals.

actually, the formula btu/hr=499.8*gpm*(change in temp) shows that the higher the flow rate the better the btu gain per hour :P. More flow is more efficient. The reason for this? is at lower flow rates, the difference in temperature between the pipe and ambient is larger. The larger the TD, the more heat loss occurs which leads to less overall absorbed heat.

That is assuming 100% conversion of electrical energy to heat i.e 0% motor efficiency. If it is a? shaded pole motor, it probably runs at about 15-20% efficiency. So knock 20% off your numbers :P

The Black Matte reflects almost no sun light,the glossy radiates it away just like a mirror,so the Matte will make any surface? hotter than one painted with Glossy paint as more sunlight will be collected in the surface to heat it. :) You can see this in practice if you can find any Matte painted car under the sun with one other having the regular Glossy Paint.

Bet the trick is slow circulation to allow the heat to build in the hose but not so slow the drum loses heat...so wrapping the? drum like you said. A temp gun and a lil tuning the flow rate and your golden!

Got 500' black plastic HomeDepotOnline $30. Laid on white concrete slab took forever to undo coils flat in big? racetracks. 6000 gallon pool drawn into 1/2HP submersible pump (driven by small solar panels and inverter feeding/drawing from marine battery) sitting in swimming pool (remove before swimming just to be safe) and running from 9am to 4pm (when I get home and go in) get a four or five degree rise which is just enough to avoid Polar Bear Club status midwinter Florida..

I don't know if? this comment has already been made but how much hotter would the water be if the hose were covered with something clear and housed in something insulated? Another thing to consider is the winding of the hose. It's hard to explain so I'll have to say that the center of it would be like an 'S' so that both either end can go to the top or bottom of the 'box' it's in.

I want to underscore this idea. It seems to me a curved cut could be determined which would result in a nearly perfect parabola when the edges are brought together. I would expect two "S" shaped cuts converging at the center of the circle would result in a small amount of bending near the center and more curvature on the periphery. A way to test this idea would be to start with a parabola and try to cut? it so that it lays flat.

Maybe a use could be found for the pans. If you could find a way to cook with the pans, you could develop? it as a personal cooking/messkit system. It may not be necessary to make a 40" paraboloid...a smaller lid might suffice, and then you just include two--one converts to a cooker and one is just a lid. If the aluminum doesn't fare well, maybe it could be put amidst stones or have a bit of mud rubbed on the outside. Or you just put two aluminum pans together so they are stronger.

HAve you ever made your own fresnel lens? I was thinking? of buying a sheet of clear plexi and use a router or dremal to carve a spiral from the middle out. Clean excess plastic shards and dust. Take a hand torch and hit the plexi just enough to remove cloudy or matte finishes without melting or discoloring the plexi. Hopefully this creates a fresnel.

I've experimented with steam a? bit and found that a easy way to make a boiler or a distiller is just with an old pressure cooker, a couple fittings, and some copper pipe bent into a worm. It's super easy project and would probably work well with a fresnel lens. I have a framed fresnel, and will probably try it out tommorow :)

I think that would be a great thing for Green Power Science to explore: Homebrew Biofuel! :D
