I wanted a lightweight wood stove for my parateepee so ... Posted by: envirosponsible
Video duration: 263 seconds Global video hits: 52917 I wanted a lightweight wood stove for my parateepee so I made one from a small barrel and some duct work. The barrel is a used fastener keg and the chimney is 4" duct work. I've been using this stove for over a year or two now but I had to change the chimney since the once I was using was too short and too heavy. A decent woodstove can be? made almost clean burning (ie no smoke). I'm in southampton, (Smokeless zone) and considering installing one, gotta be cheaper than paying for gas!
By: ppclicpl. on 17 May 12, 06:38:05
Nice job ?

your not exposing yourself to the zinc fumes - have you looked into the effects of zinc inhalation? and black pipe should be a heck of a lot less than the coated, only makes sense seeing as that step isn't needed. as? for life expectancy, should be the same - seeing as you have to burn off the toxic metal, that would place both in the same category - non coated pipe. right?
By: envirosponsible. on 25 Apr 12, 14:25:05
Is black pipe as inexpensive?? What does it matter anyway if I burn off the zinc?
By: kgmetcalfe. on 25 Apr 12, 05:05:23
should have gone with the black pipe. not the stuff your using. black pipe all you need burn? off is the oil they used in the manufacturing process.

100% right,,that baffle does nothing,, to? small
By: sibalogh. on 16 Apr 12, 12:32:09
I used 2make a vat out of these barrels nd tiled it with 1" thick? fire-brick 4longevity, nd used 2last for at least 10years. if you did it like that the coating on th outside would have remained whereas this way it'll b consumed by rust soon.
By: dave777blaster. on 08 Apr 12, 21:49:02
In that? case great job !
By: envirosponsible. on 08 Apr 12, 17:26:49
Oh I see. ? Good points though I made this project from materials at hand with minimal time and it works excellently for what it is.
By: dave777blaster. on 08 Apr 12, 06:03:43
up the chimney baffle should be? almost the size of stove and should be a lot heavier gauge steel. more control of air would also be wise.

By: dave777blaster. on 05 Apr 12, 01:18:51

By: envirosponsible. on 03 Apr 12, 14:04:19
Good point. One could be added in the? duct line. I passed this stove on to a friend so I'll let him know if he doesn't already.
By: envirosponsible. on 03 Apr 12, 14:03:24
This stove works great when it's? not overloaded like in this video. Adding a flange to the door would be easy though the cool thing about this stove is that it works great with the door open. That way longer pieces of wood can be fed into it. Besides I passed it on to a friend.
By: Rustaholic777. on 31 Mar 12, 23:29:53
You have way? too many holes in that stove. Get another barrel so you can cut your doors larger than the holes.
By: Ja72corbin. on 28 Mar 12, 21:48:44
you need? a damper in the Pipe!! Helps keep the stove hott and cuts the wood consumption !!

Nice ! Maybe a brass coil insert for on-demand hot water ... at least to take the chill off of a gravity-fed shower supply ... As long as the reservoir is about 8ft higher than the shower head, it does not matter if you dip down low and run it thru a coil that is inserted thru the main (or top) door of the stove. ... Just need enough of a leader to? avoid any melting of fire or safety hazards. YOU may not care that much but I hear the ladies really appreciate a warm bath, on occasion.
By: dedicateddad. on 13 Mar 12, 04:07:29
Basically, you need to: 1 redo your doors so they seal as tight as possible 2 raise the "grate" a bit so there's room for ash below 3 add an "ash door" BELOW grate so you can? clean it out even while burning 4 on the ash door include a damper - look at a "kettle" style charcoal grill to see how it's done. AWESOME effort, though!
